  • Relative humidity changes with temperature, so moisture load calculations are carried out with the humidity ratio (g/kg dry air).
  • The moisture load of a space comes from seven independent sources: infiltration, planned ventilation, water evaporation, occupants, building diffusion, hygroscopic materials and combustion.
  • In the worked example, a 600 m³ production area with 0.25 air changes per hour and a 4.4 g/kg humidity ratio difference gives an infiltration load of 792 g/h.
  • A safety factor of 15–25% is added to the total; margins above 50% lead to oversizing and short cycling.
  • Above a +12 °C dew point refrigerant dehumidifiers are sufficient; lower targets require silica gel rotor systems, down to a −60 °C dew point.
