Composite material manufacturing is a critical process involving the combination of carbon fiber, glass fiber, aramid, and their combinations with epoxy or polyester resins. The use of an industrial humidifier is indispensable for material integrity and mechanical performance in the production of composite parts for high-performance applications such as aerospace, automotive, wind energy, and sports equipment.

When prepreg materials absorb moisture, curing chemistry is disrupted, porosity increases, and mechanical properties decrease. Epoxy resins undergo hydrolysis at high humidity, reducing final bond strength. In vacuum infusion processes, high ambient humidity negatively affects the adhesion of film and bag materials. Uncontrolled humidity during preparation before autoclave curing increases delamination risk. On the other hand, excessively low humidity also negatively affects static electricity buildup and personnel comfort.

In composite manufacturing facilities equipped with an industrial humidifier, layup and preparation areas generally target 40 to 55 percent relative humidity, prepreg storage rooms target 40 to 50 percent, and post-cure cooling zones target 45 to 55 percent. These values are fine-tuned based on resin type and curing method.

Humidity system design in composite manufacturing facilities should include independent control loops for layup areas, prepreg storage rooms, and post-cure cooling zones. In large open layup areas, steam-type or atomization-type humidifiers provide a homogeneous humidity profile via distribution manifolds. The temperature-humidity combination that directly affects resin viscosity and curing kinetics is monitored in real time by integrated sensor networks. Tight-tolerance closed-loop control in pre-autoclave preparation rooms ensures that every batch is processed under the same environmental conditions.

With proper humidity management, prepreg curing quality is preserved, epoxy hydrolysis risk is minimized, and delamination rates decrease. Mold leakage and part rejection in vacuum infusion processes are reduced. Environmental conditions also become documentable in certification audits such as AS9100 and NADCAP for the aerospace and defense sectors.
