What is the Energy Efficiency Simulation?

The energy efficiency simulation compares the energy consumption and 10-year total cost of ownership (TCO) of condensing (mechanical), desiccant (silica gel rotor), and hybrid dehumidification technologies. It analyzes electricity, steam and natural gas consumption profiles for the same dehumidification capacity with selectable currency (TRY/EUR/USD) cost projections.

The simulation is based on manufacturer technical datasheets of widely-used desiccant dehumidification units. Process fan, regeneration fan and heater (electric / gas / steam) power consumption are calculated separately for each device model. Total energy cost and 0–10 year TCO curve are generated based on annual operating hours (100–8,760 h).

The results section presents a cheapest-to-most-expensive savings ranking, power consumption comparison, annual cost comparison, 10-year TCO curve, and 1/5/10-year maximum savings metrics. A PDF report can be exported.

NKT engineering uses this tool for technology-selection decisions in low dew point applications (lithium-ion dry rooms, freeze-dryer storage, pharmaceutical storage). Condensing units are recommended for low moisture loads, silica-gel rotor desiccants for high moisture loads + low dp requirements, and hybrid configurations in between. The decision rationale is presented to the customer via the TCO report.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which technologies does the energy simulation compare?
It compares energy consumption of condensing (mechanical), desiccant (silica gel rotor), and hybrid dehumidification technologies. Analyzes electricity, steam, and natural gas sources.
Which device models are included in the simulation?
Manufacturer technical catalog data of widely-used desiccant dehumidifiers (process fan power, regeneration fan power, heater capacity) is used. A separate energy profile is calculated for each model.
How is annual energy cost calculated?
Calculated with: total power consumption (fan + heater) × annual operating hours × unit energy price. Electricity, steam, and gas costs are shown separately.
What is the advantage of steam heating in desiccant systems?
Using existing boiler steam reduces electricity costs. Steam-heated regeneration can provide 40-60% lower operating costs compared to electric systems.
What is a hybrid system?
A hybrid system combines condensing pre-cooling with desiccant dehumidification. It improves energy efficiency in high-humidity environments and achieves lower dew points.

Calculations represent approximate values. Detailed analysis is required for final engineering designs.
