Installing a Pool Dehumidifier

Even a well-chosen dehumidifier underperforms in an indoor pool if it is installed incorrectly. Using a villa pool as an example, this episode covers what to watch for when installing a wall-mounted pool dehumidifier: delivery and standing time, position and clearances, electrical safety zones, bracket levelling, drainage and the trap, the electrical connection, start-up and shock chlorination. We also answer the most common site question: can condensate drain into the pool?

  • The unit is carried upright and stands upright for at least 2 hours before mounting; installation follows painting, tiling, heating, drainage and electrical work.
  • It hangs on a wall inside the hall, as high as practical with space left below the ceiling; leave at least 15 cm below and 20 cm above and at the sides, and never place it on the floor because air is drawn in from below.
  • If it is closer than 1.25 metres to the pool edge, its lower edge must be at least 2.5 metres above the pool surface; the permitted bracket deviation is 3 millimetres per metre.
  • Condensate drains by gravity alone, the line never rises, and the trap sits at least 20 cm below the drain outlet. Condensate can carry bacteria, so it is never returned to the pool.
  • Supply is single-phase 230 V with a 16 A breaker and an RCD rated no higher than 30 mA; during shock chlorination, chlorine in the hall air can reach 24 ppm, so the unit is switched off.

Moisture Load Calculation

Selecting an industrial dehumidifier starts with an accurate moisture load calculation. This episode walks through the seven moisture sources, a worked infiltration example and how the target dew point drives the choice of technology.

Relative Humidity and Health

We usually judge indoor comfort by temperature alone, yet relative humidity shapes our health, productivity and the life of the building just as much. This episode uses the Sterling chart to cover the effects of low and high humidity, the ideal range and how humidity is controlled in both directions.

Dehumidification Technologies

There are three main technologies for industrial dehumidification: desiccant rotor, condensing and pool units. This episode compares their operating principles, achievable dew points, strengths and limits, and shows how the target dew point and the ambient temperature drive the right choice.

Dehumidifier Selection

Selecting an industrial dehumidifier is never just a single capacity figure. This episode covers eight criteria, from target relative humidity and dew point, moisture load and technology to reactivation energy, casing, automation and service, and a five-step decision process.

How to Calculate Humidification Load

In winter, heated indoor air can drop below 15% relative humidity. This episode calculates the humidification load step by step from the absolute humidity difference and the volume of air entering the space, works through two examples with Türkiye climate data, and covers economisers, unit selection and the energy budget.

Humidity Control in Swimming Pools

In an indoor pool, the heated water surface evaporates all day; this evaporation cannot be prevented, only controlled. This episode calculates evaporation with the VDI 2089 formula, works through a 32 m² villa pool example, and covers hall conditions, chloramines and corrosion, unit selection, air distribution and maintenance.
